Friday's Review-The Swiffer-and you can win one!

This week's product review is on the Swiffer. I have 4 dogs that come in and out constantly from the doggy door. My downstairs is all laminate wood floors and ceramic tile. The dog hair alone is quite overwhelming at times! Not to mention the muddy paw prints and then the junk dragged in by the kids! If I don't sweep every day and mop once a week, it can get pretty disgusting. Just coming off my busy Fall season, it was pretty disgusting. I frankly couldn't remember the last time I gave the floors a good cleaning.
So when I was offered the chance to review the Swiffer Sweeper I decided now was the time to get my floors in shape and give it a good test.
I love the fact that it was light weight and easy to put together. The cloths were easy to put on although if you don't push them in far enough, they will quickly slip off the base. I quixkly realized that my floors were just too far gone for the Swiffer to handle. So I got out the old brrom and dust pan and went to work. When I was done, I went over it again with the Swiffer and was amazed at how much it stil picked up! It obviously picks up a lot that the broom misses.
Then I tried the wet mop cloth. I like the scent and how shiny it made my floor. But again my floors were too bad right then for it to handle. I would have had to use 20 cloths! So I did it the old fashined way.
Since I did the major clean up, I have used the Swiffer daily. I'm thrilled that I can clean p 1000 square feet with hair and mess from 4 dogs, in under 10 minutes! It does a fabulous job of keeping the floors looking clean and shiny. Now, I can do it with one cloth if I do it daily. I mop once a week with the wet cloth and need to use 2 do the job. I'm very pleased with how clean t gets the floors.
So my advice is, if you have a MAJOR mess, you probably need to used the old standby equipment. But once you have it under control, the Swiffer is an excellent tool to easily keep it that way. Now that I have my floors under control, and can keep them that way quickly and easily, I'll always use the swiffer and hopefully won't let them get as bad as they were the next time my life gets overwhelming.
Below is a list of tips (sent to me along with the Swiffer) that pet owners can do to keep the hairy mess in your house under control:
• Always keep small plastic bags handy for collecting unavoidable accidents
• Baby wipes and hand sanitizers are ideal to have after you finish playing or handling your pet
• The new Swiffer Sweeper gives your home a complete clean, getting in tough to reach areas, such as corners, edges and under furniture, where pet hair loves to hide
• A lint brush and roller is a must to remove animal hair from your family's clothing
Ok, here's alink where you can find a store in your area that sells the Swiffer if you would like to try it:
I know I see them everywhere now:Walmart, grocery stores, etc.
Now, one more thing. If you'd like to win your own Swiffer Sweeper kit, leave a comment with what dog related topic you are most interested in reading about. A winner will be picked at random and announced in next Friday's post.
Til next week,

Buddy's Joke Thursday

Hi Guys and Gals and pups too!
I had a great week! How about you? It got warmer so Momma-Cathy played outside with me more. I'd be happy someone would play with me 24 hours a day. But I'll take whatever I can get.
I'm a little worried though. I heard Momma-Cathy talking about leaving us for a week. Who will play with me? The other humans here won't. Sigh….
Anyway, ready for this week's joke? Ok, here we go:
A guy sees a sign in front of a house: "Talking dog for sale." He rings the bell and the owner tells him the dog is in the back yard. The guy goes into the back yard and sees a mutt sitting there.
"You talk?" he asks.
"Yep" the mutt replies.
"So what's your story?" the man asks.
The mutt looks up and says "Well, I discovered this gift when I was just a pup and I wanted to help the government so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, cos no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies 8 years running. The jetting around really tired me out and I knew I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to settle down. So I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security work, mostly wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings there and was awarded a bunch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of puppies and now I'm retired."
The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. The owner says "$10."
The guy says he'll buy him but asks the owner, "This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him?"
The owner replies, "Because he's a liar."
Ok, see ya next week!

Harley's Doggy News

Hi again! Your rover, I mean roving reporter here with more doggy news. I'm having an interesting week. My mom changed everything around in her office and that's where I sleep alot while she works. Well now everything is in a different place and I'm not sure I like it! There are several doggy beds in there but they aren't where they used to be and it feels weird! Oh well, I shall adjust I suppose.
Remember last week when I told you about that shelter in Belgian that opened a shelter for humans AND their dogs? Well I recently read in my favorite doggy magazine "Dog Fancy" that a new homeless shelter has opened up in Hollywood, CA called Petco Place for Humans and their animals! Maybe this is the start of a nationwide, no worldwide trend! Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Well that's it for this week.

Dog Fashion News-Valentine Cuties

Well Valentine's Day is almost here. I hope you all have a Valentine to share the day with. I have my sister and brothers in my pack and then the humans of course. As for the humans, I'd have to say Ryan is my Valentine! I've always had a soft spot for him.

Anyway, today I wanted to tell you about a cute shop that has some really cool Valentine's Day stuff for dogs. Now, just to be clear, I'm not getting anything out of this (I never do with the sites I tell you about..they are just cool places for dog stuff).
This boutique is called Posh Puppy Boutique. They have a whole section for Valentine's stuff! I'm hoping mom will get me this cute little pink harness dress I saw on there.
There was a few things my brothers could wear. I think Joey would look great in this tee:

They had loads of other Valentine things from treats to toys to bed to….Oh, I just LOVE Valentine's Day. Maybe I'll get a box of Valentine dog treats!

Ask Joey-My dog is a picky eater
Dear Joey,
My dog is so picky, she will only eat if I hand feed her and will not eat dog food. She only wants what I eat. What can I do?
Christina Olson
Dear Christina,
I hate to break it to you but you created a monster! Your dog has figured out she is the Alpha dog in your house. She's got it made. A live in slave. Gee, I wish Mom would hand feed me. But around here, with 4 dogs, we aren't too picky. And I guess that's the point. With us, if you are picky, you starve! If you don't eat it, one of the other dogs will! So we eat what we are offered and we don't fuss about it. Don't get me wrong, we have it pretty good here. Mom buys us a special "Chewey" every week when she goes to the grocery store. And we have a jar full of tiny dog treats we get on occasion.
My suggestion may be difficult but I'm sure your dog won't starve. It may be a battle of wills for awhile. First, I'd stop the hand feeding. Feed your dog 2 times a day. Put her food down, give her time to eat it and if she hasn't eaten within an hour, take it away. Do it again at the next scheduled time. Do not feed her your food. You should not eat with her in the same room if possible. Eventually she will get the idea and get hungry enough to eat what is offered.
One other option is what my mom did when we fostered a very picky rescue dog. We always have a bowl of dog food to munch on when one of us gets hungry. Our meals supplemented at times with other things but that staple bowl of dry food is always there. The foster dog stuck his nose up at it at first but eventually he ate. So you could do it that way too.
Whatever you decide to do, be consistent and don't give in to those puppy dog eyes.

How has your week been? I have had a good one I guess. Except it's been really cold. I don't mind too much. I still like to go outside a lot but no one will come out and play with me when it's cold!
Momma-Cathy usually will go out with me the first thing every morning and then several times a day to throw my ball and chase me around the yard. I really love that! Specially when Roxy joins in the game and chases me too. I'm in heaven then. Sigh…
But lately I cant get Momma-Cathy to come out at all and the other dogs only come out to potty and then rush back in.
It's supposed to warm up in a few days so hopefully things will get back to normal.
The good news this week is Momma-April bought me some neat stuff from the pet store. My own little bone charm with all my info on it in case I get lost, a package of gourmet dog cookies and a few toys! I LOVE my Momma-April!
Ok, I talked so much this week, I'm only going to tell you 2 short jokes & one is more of an observation.
If you think dogs can't count, try putting 3 dog biscuits in your pocket, then give your dog just 2 of them.
What do you get when you cross a Rottweiler and a Collie? A dog that will bite you and then go run for help.
Ha Ha Ha Ha
Til next week,
Buddy the Tigger Dog!
