After Bath Robes
The Man Without a Face trailer Ahhh, the things I go through to be a fashion dog diva. As a typical dog, I do NOT like baths. But I endured one this weekend. Here's a picture of my human brother Ryan giving me a bath.
I look thrilled, don't I? Well things got better when I got to try out my own custom made after bath robe. My momma just has a plain old bath robe, not a pretty pink specially made one like I do!
I still don't look happy but believe me I ws thrilled to get out of that water and into a nice, fluffy, comfy robe! My robe was made to fit my body so it stays on and fits perfectly. I highly recommend them. In fact, when I got dry and Momma went to take my robe off, I didn't want her to! I wanted to keep wearing it.
If you are interested in getting one for your dog, you can get yours at FidosFunctionalFashion.com. They have pre-made after bath robes or custom made after bath robes. You can also get Around Town Coats too for when the weather gets cold.
Til next week!
Ask Joey-I don't have time to train my dog!
Can training wait with a new dog?
Dear Joey,
I recently adopted a dog. I love my mixed breed Riley, but I'm going through a busy time at work and I just don't have time to train him properly. I live alone so no one else can do it. My increased work pace will slow down in a few months and then I will have time for training but will the damage be done? I know I should get started right away. Also I can't wait a few months for Riley to be house trained. Any advice?
Jess in Cincinatti
Dear Jess,
Being so busy at work, is probably not the best time to adopt a new dog. But now that you have, you do need to find some time each day for training Riley. Dog training does not have to take hours every day. It's an onging, consistent process as you interact with the dog. You need to know how to train Riey and what to do. If you can just carve an hour or two out of your week, please sign up for a dog training class. The big box pet stores such as PetSmart and Petco offer classes at different times during the week and on the weekend. You can also ask your vet for a recommendation for an independent dog trainer. Some will even come to your house to save you even more time.
If you just can't get out to a training class, then I suggest you purchase an online class. Here is the link to the one I have used and highly recommend:Dog Training Course. What I did with the audio part of this course was to upload it to my ipod and then I listened to it while I was at work, out running errands or whatever. Then when I came home, I could practice what I learned on my dogs.
Also, while you are away from home so much, you really need to get someone to come over during the day, let Riley out to go "potty" and to give him a little attention and play. It's not good for Riley's social skills to be alone so much. And it definitely won't be good for him to be crated up for long periods of time. I'd look into hiring a dog walker for a few months. Your vet can probably give you a few recommendations for this too.
Good luck with your new friend and let us know how you both are doing.

Buddy's Joke:Excerpts from a Cat's Diary
June 26, 2009 by doggymom
Hi there. Buddy here again. I promised last week that I would give cats equal time and post an excerpt from one of their diaries. Last week we did an excerpt from a dog's diary. If you missed it, you can find it here: Dog's Diary excerpt.
Ok here's the cat's diary excerpt. WARNING: It's not pretty!
Excerpts from a Cat's Diary
DAY 752: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.
DAY 761:
Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair…must try this in their bed.
DAY 765:
Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was….Hmmm. Not working according to plan.
DAY 768:
I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however, it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo". What sick minds could invent such a liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.
DAY 771:
There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise…More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies". Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
DAY 774:
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. the dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it's only a matter of time….
Have a great week!
Product Review-KaChewkee Wrapper

So what is a KaChewkee Wrapper?
If you are like me, you are probably wondering what a KaChewkee Wrapper is and why would I want one for my dog.
Catherine from Fido's Functional Fashion makes these little gems. They are for dogs who tend to gobble their treats too fast. This little device is wrapped around the treat, and the dog has to work at getting it off to get to the treat. It teaches your pup a little patience.
The picture on the left shows a KaChewkee in the process of being wrapped around a dog treat. To the right is a sweet little dog (looks a little like our Joey, doesn't it?) getting ready to enjoy his KaChewkee.
These come in 4 colors and 3 sizes. They are machine washable and made of natural fibers.
I have 4 dogs who are relatively well behaved when it comes to snack time. I do make them all sit or roll over before they get a treat. Joey does get excited and finds it hard to sit but he will…to get his treat. When it comes to actually eating the treat, Buddy has a problem with gobbling the treat really quickly. But I think it may because he is so big and the treats I buy are relatively small (to fit the smaller dogs' mouths).
I tried it with Joey first and he loved playing with it. Joey is very smart (he does Monday's dog advice column after all) and he seemed to think this was a challenge for him to figure out.
Harley seemed confused by it at first but eventually figured it out and got the treat out in about 30 minutes.
Roxy quickly figured it out but then she's part Border Collie.
Buddy was the problem child. He tried to swallow the whole thing including the KaChewkee wrapper! I had to pull it out of his throat before it went too far down.
I contacted Catherine and asked her for some hints about the KaChewkee and this is what she said:
Hints – for those furry friends who chew "everything".
The KW allows you to have a ritual where you can work on some basic commands and concepts with your pal.
When giving the KW ask for a "sit" while tying it up.
This is a great exercise for helping them anticipate something fun without jumping and going crazy.
Don't get them all hyped up with excitement. Have a calm demeanor and voice.
Let them see it and say "mine".
Present it (bring it down to their level – don't encourage jumping with holding it up for them to "snatch")
when they clamp onto it hold on for just a second.
Have eye contact and say "yours" upon release.
Let them take to where ever they are going to enjoy it and have their couple of minutes of fun
Keep an eye on them. When the crunching stops it's time to check how things are going.
Like with children – when things are too quiet it's time to go see what's going on.
Take the empty wrapper. Using the "give" or "drop it" command.
If you have a " snapper" put your foot on it and say "mine". Ask for sit. Pick it up.
All these little steps help with establishing the pack order.
Knowing you are top dog and what behavior you expect lets them feel safe and calm.
And of course no toy is right for all dogs. But this "training-toy" is right for many dogs.
So, I agree that it's not for everyone. I'm a little afraid to trust Buddy with it. I don't think he realizes he's eating something he shouldn't be.
But it was great for Joey. He totally enjoyed it. It was a wonderful mind game for him.
I think this would be a great product for teaching your dog some "table manners" and giving them a puzzle to work out too.

What's Up Dox Dachshund Shoppe
Momma and I found this great site What's up Dox Dachshund Shoppe. If you like Weiner dogs, this is the place for you. What fun! They have such cute little t-shirts for you and your pup! Here's an example:
They also carry some adorable silver dog charms and leashes and collars
I fell in love with the Snuggle Bags and you can get them in different sizes so even though I'm not a Dachshund, I could fit in the largest size!
One of the things that Momma wants to get for herself is the Doxie hair ties. We have never seen anything like them!
After you are done shopping, just for fun, check out the Dachshund picture gallery. Such cutie pies! Gee, I kind of wish I was a wiener dog!
Some New Members of our Family
Meet our new animal friends!
Hi there. Joey here and we decided to do something a little different this week. Instead of the usual question and answer thing we do each week; I want to tell you about some new members of our family!
A few weeks ago my human brother Ryan talked Momma into getting 2 little fire belly frogs. We named them Fred and Ethel. We all like watching them. They eat crickets. Momma feels bad for the crickets but it's fun to watch the frogs "hunt for their meals". See their red throats? Their entire underbelly is red. These guys are so colorful, they almost look like those cheap plastic toy frogs you find at the Dollar Store. They are real though. They make soft barking noises. Hey, maybe they think they are one of us doggies!
Last Friday night Ryan rode his bike down to the ocean front. While there, a bad storm hit and he got to see a waterspout and he also got to see lightening actually hit the water's surface. Momma was jealous cos she has always wanted to see a tornado or waterspout. Anyway, Momma had to drive down there to pick Ryan up since the storm didn't seem to want to blow over like most summer storms do.
On the way back, Ryan saw a tiny black thing walking in the pouring rain, in the middle of the road. They stopped and rescued this:
The kitten is all black except for a tuft of white fur on his chest so Ryan named him Midnight. He looks to be about 5-6 weeks old. Ryan has been wanting another cat since we lost sweet Nikki, our 17 year old Himalayan sister. Momma wasn't sure we would get a long with the little kitty but we like him. We all were curious about him and I'm totally fascinated with him. I have always had a thing for babies, both human and animal babies. So I'm in 7th heaven having a baby around! Soon we will have a human baby here too when my human sister April gives birth in August. For now, I'll keep myself busy watching over Midnight and showing him the ropes in the busy Bloggy Doggies household.
Til next week,
