First I want to congratulate Kimberly Unger who won the cool iphone app called Pet Vision where you can see what your dog and cat sees. Kimberly, contact me at doggymom@bloggydoggies.com to get your code.

Next I want to remind Tim Edington to contact me at the same email addy so we can give him his Taste of the Wild prize. If I don't hear from Tim by next Tuesday, I'll have to pick a new winner from the comments we received.

Now for some dog news

Country music singer Tracy Lawrence believes his beloved 2 year old Bulldog Tank. He went into Walgreens to pick up some batteries and left his dog in the back of the truck. When he came back out, Tank was gone. Now, I gotta say, it's not a good idea to leave a dog in the back of a truck. Tank may have jumped out or even fallen out while the truck was in motion. But I still feel bad for Tracy. He has 2 kids who are heartbroken by Tank's disappearance. And I worry for Tank too. I really pray that he is ok and will be returned home.

Lawrence has offered a $500 reward for the return of his dog. Anyone with information can contact the Mt. Juliet Police at (615) 754-2552 and talk to Sgt. Michael Mullins.

Jake Owens has dog pick girlfriends

And in other Country and Dog news, People Pets has a video with Country Music cutie Jake Owens. His dog Vern picks his girlfriends for him. You can find the video here: http://www.peoplepets.com/news/dogs/video-jake-owen-s-dog-picks-his-girlfriends/1

That's it for this week. Be sure to contact me if you have any dog news to report.

Would you Like to See what your Dog Sees

Well now you can! I got a chance to try a cool new iphone app called Pet Vision. As usual, I have to give my disclaimer that I did not get paid to review this product though I did get the app itself to try out for free.

This app works on your Iphone or ipod-touch. Just do a search in your app store and it will pop up. It's very reasonably priced at .99 cents.

Now the first question is why would you even want to know how your pet sees things? Well, for one, just out of curiosity. Most people know that dogs are color blind but they actually do see some colors. Just not all the same colors that we see. Cats even see less colors than we do.

But there are other reasons. The manufacturer says:

"Our app is called "Pet Vision" and it takes the camera feature of the
iPhone (or photo library on an iPod touch) and processes the pictures
you take into the color spectrum of your  favorite canine or feline.
It's a lot of fun to see the world through the eyes of your pet!  And
moreover, we feel the application goes beyond entertainment by
allowing people better understanding of their pet's vision.  Imagine
taking a photo of your pet's favorite and least favorite toys… you
might learn something about their preference."

I couldn't wait to try this app out. My teen son was fascinated with it too. He kept going around the house and yard looking for things to photograph and then switched the settings to dog and cat to see what it would look like. Very entertaining. I also need to mention that the app was simple to use which is great for a tech idiot like me.

So I guess you might be curious what it actually looks like through your pets' eyes.

The following is a photo of my baby granddaughter (isn't she adorable?) The first one is the way we would see this photo:

The next picture is how your dog would see it:

The last is the way your cat would see it:

Interesting, huh?

I have a code for a free download of this app. If you would like to win one,  just leave a comment saying you want to win it, and I will announce the winner in next Tuesday's post.

Dog News-A New Dog Magazine and More

It's been awhile since Harley has given you any dog news. She has been staying with my mother lately to keep her company when I'm not there. So I thought I would fill in.

First, there is a new FREE online magazine out there called Total Dog Magazine. It looks like a regular magazine but it all online. I ordered it myself and was very impressed with the articles. If you are interested, sign up here: http://totaldog.co.uk

Another thing I was impressed with. Purina contacted me to let me know about their new pet video series "Do More for Pets". They plan to feature 9 short videos this Spring. 3 are up so far. It stars hunky Jeff Probst of Survivor fame and his cat Zoey and dog Cooper.  If you'd like to watch them, the first one is Hiking and Camping with your Dog http://domoreforpets.yahoo.com/?video=1 .The second one is Nuturing your Cat's Inner Wildcat http://domoreforpets.yahoo.com/?video=2 and the third one is Safely Taking your Dog on a Car Ride http://domoreforpets.yahoo.com/?video=3.

The 3rd thing is not free but I love this idea and thought it was so touching, I had to include it. Pet Memorial Tree Gifts plants a tree in memory of your pet  in U.S. National Forests that have been destroyed by wildfire. What a thoughtful loving way to remember your beloved pup and such a renewal of life! Each Memorial Tree Gift includes the planting of a tree, a card that explains the gift, the pet’s name and optional photo on our pet registry, and access to information about where the tree was planted. Here's the web addy: http://www.treesforachange.com/petmemorials.html

Ok, the next piece of news is for fellow pet bloggers. Have you heard about Blog Paws? It's an organization created for the online  pet community. This April 9th and 10th, they are having their first ever Blog Paws 2010. It's a convention in Columbus Ohio for pet bloggers to get together and learn and network. I really want to go but funds are kind of tight right now. Any pet companies want to help sponser me??? If so write me at doggymom@bloggydoggies.com and we can work something out.

My last note is kind of sad. Our beloved Joey is going into surgery in the morning for a cancerous growth on his leg. They will test him to see if it has spread but is doesn't look good.Yes, he's an old guy, almost 14 but he's still my baby. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Below is a picture I just took of him. He has the collar on because he keeps trying to gnaw at the growth. Yuch.

Ok, that's it for now.

Hi again! Your rover, I mean roving reporter here with more doggy news.  I'm having an interesting week. My mom changed everything around in her office and that's where I sleep alot while she works. Well now everything is in a different place and I'm not sure I like it! There are several doggy beds in there but they aren't where they used to be and it feels weird! Oh well, I shall adjust I suppose.

Remember last week when I told you about that shelter in Belgian that opened a shelter for humans AND their dogs?  Well I recently read in my favorite doggy magazine "Dog Fancy"  that a  new homeless shelter has opened up in Hollywood, CA called Petco Place for Humans and their animals! Maybe this is the start of a nationwide, no worldwide trend! Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Filed under Roxy the Fashion Diva

Hi there! I'm Roxy, the Fashion Diva back here for another Doggy Fashion report. This week I want to let you know about a cool thing my mom found several months ago. Back in the Fall, mom did a lot of craft shows. At one of them, she met a really nice lady named Joy who was selling the coolest doggy stuff. She has a website too and some of the stuff in her booth, didn't make it up on the site but he signature product did! It's a really colorful bandanna . But it's not just any ordinary bandanna. This one has a little pocket in it where you can store a plastic bag for those little poopies we doggies do on our walks. Ingenious!  The site is called K9 Just in Case . They have lots of great patterns and sizes for any dog.

is a wonderful place (I love the graphics!) Every day, you can come answer a trivia question on their site. Even if you get it wrong, they will donate a small amount of dog food to a shelter. It's just a little but it adds up! You can even sign up to be reminded to stop by.

    Hi Doggies and Doggy Lovers!

I'm Roxy, the Fashion Diva. I LOVE Bling and clothes, and all things related to fashion. That's the one thing the humans have over us dogs. They seem to have such nice clothes that they wear everyday!I have to beg mom to dress me once in awhile.

This week, I want to tell you about Reflective Vest Walking Harnesses.  These things are great for us dogs when we go for walks. You can attach a leash to the back of the harness, so we won't slip out of it. The harness is reflective, so we can be seen at night.  It adds some protection against the rain and cold. And the colors are awesome.  Below are some places where you can get them:

Ask Joey-My Dog Growls When I Get Near His Food

    Dear Joey,

We just adopted a dog from the pound. He seems like a nice dog except he growls when we approach his food bowel. What can we do?

    Hi Brad!

I have always been a good dog and have never had this problem but my mom did have this problem with Buddy when he was a puppy. There were several things she did and it worked! You can now take food right out of his mouth and he lets you do it. Read the article below that my mom wrote about what you can do. Maybe it will work for you too.

P.S.  Please leave me a comment if you have a question or something to add. Also leave a comment if you have a question for me for next week!

Growling Over Food download Blast from the Past

Most people are confused and hurt when the sweet little dog that normally would never show any aggression, starts growling when anyone gets close to their food. This is a common problem and there are reasons behind it. It is called Resource Guarding. In the wild, food is scarce and there are many mouths that hunger for it. So it's only natural to growl if someone gets too close to it. But in the wild, the alpha dog always eats first and then the lower dogs go for their fill. So what does this tell us? Your dog is afraid he won't have enough food for himself. And he is trying to become the alpha dog in the pack. That should be your job. YOU are the alpha dog in this pack!

So what do you do? First, take everything I say with caution. If you have any fear that your dog may bite you, please consult with a dog trainer. But I can tell you what has worked for me and these suggestions came from a trainer.

If your dog is a young puppy, it is good to do this even if your dog has never growled. It just starts things out on the right foot and teaches the dog that not only are you the alpha dog but that you are the good guy and the giver of food, not the taker!

What you do, is sit by the dog's bowl with his food. Call him over and hand feed him a few pieces. Then drop a few more pieces in the bowl while you sit beside him and watch him eat. Repeat this process a few times. Use very tiny amounts of food, so the dog will not fill up too quickly. Do this for several feedings. This will help the dog closely assoicate you as the source of good things.

At this point, if the dog is no longer growling, you can go to the next step. As you are sitting by the dog with a small amount of food in the bowl, slowly take the bowl away. Hold it for about 30 seconds and then give it back. Do this a few times after repeating the prior process of hand feeding a few bites and placing a few bites in the bowl.

Your dog should be cured of his growling habit over food. If not, it is time to consult a trainer.
