The HAPPY Act will make pet owners happy and save pet lives

I learned about the HAPPY Act from a twitter pal who sent me a DM about it. I was definitely interested.

So what is the HAPPY Act? It stands for "Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years Act." It's a bill proposed by Republican Rep. Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan, and would allow tax payers to to deduct animal care expenses from their taxes. And it's not a paltry sum either. the amount can be up to $3,500 a year!

Although McCotter isn't actively pursuing this bill, he did say:

"Well, we've had reports of people having to turn in pets because of the economic recession," he said. "And when you think about the relationship between people and pets and the humane way that it helps people think, it seemed to me to be a good idea, and we dropped it in" to the congressional hopper."

If the public is interested in this bill and gets behind it, he will throw more of his support behind it.

I really hope the American public gets behind this bill. It could mean the difference of life and death for a lot of pets. If pet owners could keep their pets, and have the economic help to do so, fewer pets would be turned into shelters. I strongly encourage you to contact your own representatives and ask them to back the HAPPY Act bill.
